Kaizer Chiefs starting XI prediction: Dstv Premiership vs Royal AM

We predict the Kaizer Chiefs starting XI ahead of their DStv Premiership match against Royal AM on Saturday.

Kaizer Chiefs starting XI prediction

Bruce Bvuma is unlikely to hold onto his place in the starting XI after a poor showing against Sundowns but will Stuart Baxter turn to Daniel Akpeyi or Itumeleng Khune. In this case, we believe Baxter will give Khune a shot at redemption.

Baxter has tremendous faith in the centre back pairing of Daniel Cardoso and Erick Mathoho despite patchy form as a pairing and Chiefs’ acquisition of PSL defender of the season Njabulo Ngcobo.

On the flanks, it’s expected that Kaizer Chiefs will revert to using Njabulo Blom at right-back while Sifiso Hlanti has no significant rival for his place on the left.

Baxter might be tempted to turn away from using Phathutshedzo Nange and Cole Alexander in symphony after the latter had a poor game against Sundowns. Akumu Agay might get his chance to start this match.

With Manyama not yet at 100 per cent it’s likely that Nkosingiphile Ngcobo will take up a position behind the front three.

That front three should remain unchanged despite drawing a blank last time out, Khama Billiat, Samir Nurkovic and Keagan Dolly seem to be the natural front three for this Kaizer Chiefs squad, at least while Dumisani Zuma is on the sidelines.

Predicted XI

Itumeleng Khune, Njabulo Blom, Daniel Cardoso, Erick Mathoho, Sifiso Hlanti, Phathutshedzo Nange, Akumu Agay, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Khama Billiat, Samir Nurkovic, Keagan Dolly.

Algeria’s former President Bouteflika dies at 84

Former Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has died at 84, the Presidency said on Friday, more than two years after he stepped down under pressure from mass protests and the army.

Bouteflika, a veteran of Algeria’s war for independence, had ruled the North African country for two decades before his resignation in April 2019 after street demonstrations rejecting his plan to seek a fifth term.

He had rarely been seen in public before his departure since a stroke in 2013.

After Bouteflika’s resignation, in a bid to end the protests demanding political and economic reforms, authorities launched unprecedented investigations into corruption, leading to the imprisonment of several senior officials, including Bouteflika’s powerful brother and advisor, Said.

After Algeria’s independence from France in 1962, former President Bouteflika became Algeria’s first foreign minister and an influential figure in the Non-Aligned Movement.

As a President of the UN General Assembly, Bouteflika invited former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to address the body in 1974, a historic step toward international recognition of the Palestinian cause.

He also demanded that China be given a seat in the in the United Nations, and railed against apartheid rule in South Africa.

In the early 1980s, he went into exile after the death of ex-President Houari Boumediene and settled in Dubai, where he became an adviser to a member of the emirate’s ruling family.

He returned home in the 1990s when Algeria was being ravaged with a war between the army and armed Islamist militants that killed at least 200 000 people.

Elected President in 1999, he managed to negotiate a truce with Islamists and launched a national reconciliation process allowing the country to restore peace.

Defiant junta rejects pressure to let Conde leave Guinea

Guinea’s military junta said on Friday it would not bow to regional pressure and allow President Alpha Conde, detained since his overthrow on September 5, to leave the country.

On Friday Ivory Coast’s President Alassane Ouattara and Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo paid a one-day visit to Conakry to ask coup leader Mamady Doumbouya, a special forces commander and former French Legionnaire, for Conde’s release.

Outtara had been hoping to leave Guinea with Conde, a senior regional government official told Reuters.

“The former president is and remains in Guinea. We will not yield to any pressure,” the junta said in a statement read on State TV.

Ouattara and Akufo-Addo, representing the 15-member Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), held a separate meeting with Conde at the Mohamed VI Palace in Conakry, but flew out the country on Friday evening empty-handed.

Ouattara told RTG at Conakry airport before leaving: “I met my brother Alpha Conde, who is doing well. We will remain in contact.”

Akufo-Addo told RTG: “We’ve had a very frank and fraternal meeting with Doumbouya and his collaborators. I think that ECOWAS and Guinea are going to find the best way to move forward together.”

ECOWAS has demanded a return to constitutional rule since the special forces unit seized control of the presidential palace, detained Conde and declared itself in charge.

The bloc agreed on Thursday to freeze financial assets of the junta and their relatives and bar them from travelling.

The junta has not responded.

‘COUP-BELT’

Events in Guinea followed coups in Mali and Chad earlier this year that have raised fears of a democratic backslide in a region only just shedding its “coup-belt” reputation.

Guinea’s coup leaders have held a week of consultations with public figures and business leaders to map out a framework for a transitional government.

ECOWAS’s credibility in Guinea has been strained since 2018,when the bloc failed to condemn Conde for running for a third term in office last year, despite a law declaring that presidents must step down after two and widespread protests.

Ouattara himself used a constitutional change as an excuse to run for a third term last year, a move critics decried as illegal.

Following Thursday’s summit, during which ECOWAS also pressured Mali’s transitional government to hold elections by February 2022, the regional body said it would be reviewing protocols on democracy and good governance.

On departing the airport in Conakry, the ECOWAS motorcade passed dozens of pro-junta demonstrators brandishing signs.

One read: “ECOWAS does not decide for us.”

FOR THOSE OF US BORN ON THIS DAY:

Happy Birthday! The months ahead are likely to start with some good news on the cash front, but there is a danger of spending your extra money on things that you really don’t need. You should anticipate some communication problems. Although these won’t be major or lasting they will occur in the summer, so make sure that you plan any holidays with extra care. There could be some form of tension to resolve when work or school and friends pull you in different directions: romantic encounters could prove to be wonderful diversions from these practical problems, which will ease when the sun’s and moon’s influences ensure a more detached attitude. By the end of the year you should make sure that you reserve some time in your life for fun!

ARIES DAILY HOROSCOPE | Mar 21 – Apr 19

There is an element of inconsistency, thanks to a fluctuating vibe. The morning will feel far more cooperative. Plans and ideas may have some merit, but completion may depend on a strong sense of team-effort, which may start to dwindle after lunch. Mixed messages won’t help, either!

Today’s Numbers: 5, 17, 24, 31, 35, 40

TAURUS DAILY HOROSCOPE | Apr 20 – May 20

An AM/PM split in the day may be a little misleading. The morning’s cooperative vibe may become a little more unclear after lunch. Plan out your day and include some realistic goals, rather than impossible ones. Do bear in mind too that spotting little pitfalls won’t be your greatest strength!

Today’s Numbers: 3, 8, 11, 20, 39, 42

GEMINI DAILY HOROSCOPE | May 21 – Jun 20

The pre-lunch vibe is likely to be productive, but less amenable, while the afternoon is likely to be the inverse of that. While the work front is likely to provide some interesting moments, you may need to be subtly proactive and raise your profile with a little discretion!

Today’s Numbers: 5, 11, 23, 27, 35, 40

CANCER DAILY HOROSCOPE | Jun 21 – Jul 22

While the first half of the day will see more of an emphasis on team-effort rather than individual wins, the second half is likely to see a complete reversal of this. A boost of self- confidence after lunch will benefit the work/career front to an extent, but only in moderation!

Today’s Numbers: 6, 13, 15, 25, 32, 47

LEO DAILY HOROSCOPE | Jul 23 – Aug 22

It’s certainly a day for erring on the side of caution and staying within your limits, especially after lunch, since a much ‘louder’ vibe will develop, alongside a nagging desire to prove a point. By the same token; try to avoid the temptation to take what could be an uninformed risk!

Today’s Numbers: 9, 18, 24, 32, 35, 43

VIRGO DAILY HOROSCOPE | Aug 23 – Sep 22

You may feel driven to achieve almost to the exclusion of all else today. Success looks likely, but don’t let a slight rift with colleagues develop, especially after lunch, which is when the general vibe may become a little more about self-motivation and visible results. It’s a day to meet people halfway!

Today’s Numbers: 3, 7, 12, 21, 39, 41

LIBRA DAILY HOROSCOPE | Sep 23 – Oct 22

Timing may be important, today, thanks to an AM/PM split. There’s a minor boost when it comes to support and assistance, but that said; there could be a corresponding dip in opportunities. It’s definitely a day to take a slow and considered approach for the best results!

Today’s Numbers: 5, 12, 15, 24, 35, 48

SCORPIO DAILY HOROSCOPE | Oct 23 – Nov 21

It’s a day where the morning’s highly industrious vibe may slip after lunch. A looming deadline could crop up out of nowhere and a marginally shallow response could put you on the spot a little. This could be connected to something that you worked hard for in the first place!

Today’s Numbers: 6, 13, 17, 25, 37, 43

SAGITTARIUS DAILY HOROSCOPE | Nov 22 – Dec 21

There’s a distinct and rather unhelpful AM/PM split. The morning’s watery vibe could usher in a hesitant mood and a reluctance to commit. By contrast, the afternoon’s more dynamic vibe may see an error of judgment arising from a more careless approach. It’s perhaps a day to get through!

Today’s Numbers: 5, 10, 11, 20, 35, 47

CAPRICORN DAILY HOROSCOPE | Dec 22 – Jan 19

A sedate and productive morning is likely to give way to an impulsive afternoon. While the later hours are likely to enable a far more dynamic atmosphere, do take care, because the fiery vibe could actually trivialize an ongoing matter. It’s certainly a day to watch out for undoing previous good work or halting progress!

Today’s Numbers: 6, 14, 17, 26, 32, 48

AQUARIUS DAILY HOROSCOPE | Jan 20 – Feb 18

You should be able to make more of the shifting influences if you can resist the temptation to postpone or abandon an ongoing issue for something that may well turn out to be a poorer choice. Be a little more discerning when it comes to an offer or proposal, especially after lunch!

Today’s Numbers: 8, 19, 21, 25, 33, 47

PISCES DAILY HOROSCOPE | Feb 19 – Mar 20

It may be a day to plan ahead in order to control the rather obvious AM/PM split. Generally speaking, the morning favors a softer outlook, while the later hours are more likely to favor a brisker approach. It may be a question of adapting your approach wherever necessary!

Today’s Numbers: 7, 12, 15, 23, 36, 42

Kaizer Chiefs latest | Stuart Baxter rules out signing new strikers… for now

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter has ruled out the possibility of bolstering his striking department so early in the season.

Amakhosi have had to rely on Samir Nurkovic alone as a natural striker with the assistance of attackers such as Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly upfront.

And that’s because Leonardo Castro is out injured while Lazarous Kambole is out in the cold after being transfer-listed at end of last season.

While Baxter is keeping faith in Dolly, Billiat and Nurkovic, goals haven’t been forthcoming, and he was asked if he’d consider reinforcing that department in the near future.

In response, Baxter said all his strikers haven’t played badly, adding that Chiefs created enough goalscoring chances against both Baroka and Mamelodi Sundowns.

“I’ve seen all the strikers that we have at the club while I don’t think the ones who have played have played badly,” Baxter told reporters.

“We have created lots of chances and I think against Baroka we created more chances than any team I’ve ever had in the PSL,” he said.

“In the Sundowns game, we had 10 strikes, they had two. We had six on target and a combination of maybe composure in finishing and great goalkeeping kept us out.”

Furthermore, Baxter said it would be unfair to his strikers if he were to publicly announce his interest in signing new strikers.

He believes in giving the ones he has at his disposal a chance to prove themselves before even thinking of bringing in the new strikers.

“Given that, I don’t think it is fair on those players to be announcing my interest in bringing in more strikers,” explained Baxter.

“I think I have to give them a chance and look at them first when everyone is fit and then make a decision on if we need to strengthen.

“On the strikers, at the moment, I am happy and I’m just hoping that we will start translating our chances into goals,” concluded Baxter.
