KwaZulu-Natal spate of deadly road accident’s ‘deeply disturbing’

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni, said she was “deeply disturbed” by the recent spate of accidents in KwaZulu-Natal that have claimed innocent lives.

On Sunday 12 September 2021 nine people lost their lives in a head on collision on the N2 between Canefields intersection and the Enseleni Nature Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal.

Preliminary reports suggest that an SUV collided with a minibus taxi and eight people died as a result. One person later died on Monday morning at the hospital. Among the deceased includes six males and three females from both vehicles.  Nine people are currently being treated at Ngwelezane hospital.

This latest KwaZulu-Natal road accident occurred as the province was recovering from another deadly crash on the R612 between Highflats and Ixopo which claimed 13 lives, a week ago.

Nkonyeni said she had directed investigations on both accidents. She has also appealed to all motorists to be extra cautious and to always practice patience when traveling on the roads.

Nkonyeni expressed concern regarding the spate of accidents that has led to several people being killed on KwaZulu-Natal roads.

“It is indeed a sad reality that in less than a week the province has lost more than 20 people.  We cannot over-emphasise the importance of obeying the rules of the road and being 100 percent compliant,” Nkonyeni said.

“Such gruesome accidents can be avoided.  We cannot afford to lose lives due to recklessness and that simply means our law enforcement will be beefed up to hit hard on those who are law breakers.  A team of forensic will be deployed to investigate the course of the accident.”

“We are appealing to all road users to always adhere to traffic rules and to be patient to one another.   On behalf of the government I would like to send my heartfelt condolences to the families,” Nkonyeni said.

She added that as the KwaZulu-Natal Department approached Transport Month in October it would intensify its road safety campaigns and encourage motorists to adhere to traffic laws in KwaZulu-Natal.

‘You can do better’: Nicki Minaj DRAGGED for vaccine ‘misinformation’

Rapper Nicki Minaj has found herself trending on Twitter – and it’s all for the wrong reasons. It all started when the Anaconda hitmaker tweeted about being asked to vaccinate in order to attend the Met Gala in New York.

Well, Minaj didn’t attend the plush event, leading many to assume it was because she refused to receive her jab.

“They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. if I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one,” she wrote on Twitter.

There was a flood of reaction, with some accusing the 38-year-old of promoting anti-vaxxer sentiment, which has been on the rise recently. Just when you think that was it – Nicki Minaj was not done with expressing her sentiments about the vaccine.

Minaj then tweeted a bizzare claim about the COVID-19 jab: She said a cousin from her native Trinidad refused to get the vaccine because a friend got it and became impotent.

“His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied,” she tweeted in part.

Awkwardly for Minaj, that claim was recently debunked by the CDC. It said there is currently no evidence of any vaccines causing infertility problems in women or children.

Nicki Minaj catches heat on Twitter

Unfortunately for Nicki Minaj, many people were not going to let her tweets on the vaccine slide and were quick to call the star out, including MSNBC news anchor Joy Reid.

“For you to use your platform to encourage our community to not protect themselves and save their lives. My God sister, you can do better than that,.. As a fan, I am so sad that you did that,” Reid said on her show.

Minaj is on the defensive and claims her words were taken out of context.

ANC calls for calm as tensions heighten among its members over nomination process for LGE

The African National Congress (ANC) has called for calm as tensions heighten among its members over the party’s nomination process ahead of the local government elections.

At least three people were killed at an ANC meeting in Inanda north of Durban at the weekend.

On Monday, the volatile nomination process played itself out at the party’s Luthuli House headquarters in Johannesburg where dozens of ANC members protested.

ANC concerned over violent incidents at its gatherings – Sandile Swana:

They say their preferred choices for councillors were ignored and instead the regional and provincial structures put in their own people.

This is despite the ANC having set last Saturday as the deadline for all disputes in the nomination of its would-be councillors for the November 1 elections.

ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe has urged party members to respect the choices of communities.

Not Deepika Padukone –Ranbir Kapoor, but Alia Bhatt - Ranveer Singh to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Baiju Bawra

For the record Ranveer was the first actor to be signed for Baiju Bawra . He was Bhansali first choice. “The character needs a certain madness, a junoon that only Ranveer can project. Ranbir was never considered for the role,” a source close to the epic filmmaker reveals.

As for Alia Bhatt she had made up her mind she would be Sanjay Bhansali’s leading lady in his next directorial after Gangubai Kathiawadi come what may. “Alia was insistent. Bhansali thought she fitted the part. When she read the script she went berserk. Alia says it is the best script she had read,” says a source in the know.
