Rugby Championship: All Blacks vs Argentina LIVE scores

All Blacks vs Argentina LIVE scores: New Zealand and the Pumas kick-off the unprecedented Rugby Championship double-header action at the Gold Coast’s Robina Stadium on Sunday 12 September 2021.

All Blacks vs Argentina preview

Brodie Retallick will captain the All Blacks in Ardie Savea’s absence, becoming their 71st Test captain. Retallick has started 71 of his 86 Tests to date and will be playing against Argentina for the 14th time in his Test career.

Ian Foster said he was delighted to name Brodie Retallick as the captain for this Test.

“Brodie is a great leader in this team, and we don’t take his leadership for granted. We think this is a great honour for him, and he and his family can be hugely proud. He’s playing really well and leads from the front. He has come back into the black jersey this year and just picked up where he left off.

“He also has an experienced partner in Beaudy (Barrett) alongside him who is bringing a calmness to the team and a sense of direction and we’re seeing that in the way he plays.”

After coming up well short against the Springboks, Argentina are under no illusions as to the enormity of the task facing them, but will set out to do their best to dictate how the game is played.

Mario Ledesma, Head Coach of Los Pumas said: “The objectives for this Sunday are to control the game in the areas that we can control, impose out game plan and obviously that begins with retaining possession.”

“We have to play the game we want to play. New Zealand invites you to play a rhythm that sometimes only they can play.”

Julián Montoya, Captain of Los Pumas said: “The week has been very good, we have been locked up for two weeks preparing for the game and being very self-critical. We always think about what we can improve and how we can be better”.

“New Zealand, South Africa and Australia take you to the limit and this is great, but indiscipline is a matter of 100% concentration, we have to adjust that, which was the biggest deficit in the last two games. It is difficult to compete when we’re not disciplined.”

“The set pieces are fundamental, in this game and in all, where obtaining of the ball is essential. The way to be better for us is by working hard, there are no magic formulas, there are no shortcuts, you have to work and we are doing that, always trying to be better, being self-critical and training a lot.”

Rugby Championship: Australia vs Springboks LIVE scores

Australia vs Springboks: The Robina Stadium will play host to South Africa for the first time on Sunday 12 September 2021.

Australia vs Springboks LIVE scores

Australia face the Springboks in round three of the Rugby Championship, coming into the match off the back of three successive defeats to New Zealand.

The Springboks, on the other hand carry all the momentum from four straight Test wins. Their challenge will be staving off complacency.

Australia vs Springboks preview

Springbok captain Siya Kolisi said his charges would treat the Wallabies with the respect they deserve when the two teams clash in Gold Coast.

“We want to play well consistently, but for us as a team it’s all about tomorrow (Sunday),” said Kolisi, who will earn his 57th Test cap when he takes the field.

“This is an important game for us, and we are mindful of the fact that we don’t have a good win record in Australia, so it’s all about sticking to our processes.

“The Wallabies are a good team, so we have to bring everything we have especially knowing what they have done against us in the past. We’ll certainly treat them with the respect they deserve.

“We also have our own goals, so we’ll pitch up ready.”

The sides last met in Johannesburg in 2019, with the Springboks winning the clash 35-17, and while Kolisi and Bok assistant coach Mzwandile Stick expected a massive battle, they were hopeful that they could build on their strong form this season in which they suffered only one defeat in their six Test matches.

Australia skipper Michael Hooper on Saturday warned South Africa to prepare for “a real test” with the Wallabies “pumped” by the shock return of Quade Cooper.

Hooper admitted his young team must improve their discipline and ball-handling, but insisted they were quickly learning and were capable of toppling their opponents.

“You take a loss like that (against New Zealand), again, and you’ve got to be taking stuff from it,” said the 29-year-old, who will equal George Gregan’s record for most Tests as captain when he leads the side out for the 59th time.

“You can’t just be going on the same trend, we’ve got to start to show improvements.

“And I think we’re really going to test the South Africans and we’ve got to really trust our game plan and trust the guys next to us to be able to deliver on that and for longer periods of time.”

Key Tunisian players signal they oppose suspending constitution

Tunisia’s powerful labour union and the biggest party in its parliament on Saturday both signalled their opposition to any attempt by the president to suspend the constitution and offer his own version unilaterally.

President Kais Saied seized governing powers on July 25, citing an emergency clause in the constitution to dismiss the prime minister and suspend parliament, moves his political critics call a coup.

It has thrust Tunisia into its biggest political crisis since the 2011 revolution that ousted an autocratic regime and introduced democracy.

This week one of Saied’s advisers, Walid Hajjem, told Reuters that the president was planning to suspend the 2014 constitution and offer a new version himself via a referendum.

However, the UGTT labour union on Saturday called for legislative elections to allow a new parliament to debate the constitution and change the political system, an implicit rejection of what Hajjem said Saied was contemplating.

The moderate Islamist Ennahda, the biggest party in the now suspended parliament and a key player in successive Tunisian governments, also rejected any such move.

In a statement, the party said the 2014 constitution formed the basis of Tunisia’s political and social contract and the legitimacy of both its parliament and president, and that deviating from it would mean a retreat from democracy.

Despite indefinitely extending emergency measures, Saied has rejected accusations of a coup, but nearly seven weeks after his intervention, he has not appointed a new prime minister or formally declared how he plans to rule.

The UGTT, which has more than a million members, is one of the most powerful political forces in Tunisia and was instrumental in bringing together rival political blocs after the 2011 revolution.

Smaller political parties, including some that voiced support for Saied’s July 25 intervention, have rejected the idea of his suspending the constitution and unilaterally offering a new one.

Western democracies, which have been important donors for Tunisia’s battered public finances in recent years, have pushed Saied to quickly name a prime minister and set out a path forward.

Raducanu beats Fernandez to win US Open

Britain’s Emma Raducanu completed a Grand Slam fairytale on Saturday by beating Canadian Leylah Fernandez 6-4 6-3 in the battle of the teens to be crowned US Open champion.

The 18-year-old became the first ever qualifier to win a Grand Slam title and the first British woman to hoist a major trophy since Virginia Wade triumphed at Wimbledon in 1977.

The first Grand Slam final men or women to be contested by two unseeded players was an improbable matchup that no one could have predicted, featuring 150th-ranked qualifier Raducanu and little-known Fernandez ranked 73rd.

All the more remarkable was that Raducanu’s march to the title required 10 matches, including three wins in qualifying, and she did it without dropping a single set along the way.
